Shelby County Clerk Offices Adopt New Hours and Monthly Vehicle-Service Closures |
Public counters now operate 8:30 a.m.–4 p.m., with the next in-person registration pause scheduled November 18 |

Shelby County residents planning a visit to the County Clerk's Office should take note: all offices now share public hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, beginning November 2, 2026.
Clerk Dr. La Sonya Hall said the standardized hours are meant to simplify visits and align with the state transaction systems used for public services.
Arrive early for in-person transactions
The Clerk's Office recommends that residents arrive no later than 3:30 p.m., allowing time for paperwork and transactions before public counters close.
Hours may change on holidays or for announced service adjustments, so it is wise to check before traveling.
Monthly training and backlog days
In-person motor vehicle registration and renewal services will pause at all locations on specified service-improvement days while staff work on pending transactions and training.
The next scheduled pause is Wednesday, November 18, 2026, followed by December 16 and monthly dates extending into 2027.
These interruptions affect the listed in-person vehicle services; residents should confirm whether other services are available that day.
Online options and assistance
Many residents may be able to renew vehicle registrations using the Tennessee county clerk online renewal service.
Find the latest branch information and service notices on Shelby County's official County Clerk webpage or call 901-222-3000.
Before leaving home, confirm the documents required for your transaction and allow time for travel and parking.
The office says the new schedule is intended to deliver more predictable service for residents across Memphis and Shelby County. |
