One of Memphis' favorite fall traditions returns this weekend with a milestone celebration, bringing local creativity, live entertainment, and thousands of art lovers together along the Mississippi River.

Downtown Memphis is preparing for a colorful weekend as RiverArtsFest celebrates its 20th anniversary, transforming a stretch of Riverside Drive into an open-air celebration of creativity.

The two-day festival takes place Saturday and Sunday, October 17–18, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., along Riverside Drive between Jefferson Avenue and Beale Street.

For residents who enjoy discovering something special in their own backyard, this year's anniversary celebration offers plenty of reasons to visit.

More Than 160 Artists in One Place

RiverArtsFest brings together more than 160 juried artists, presenting works across a wide range of styles and artistic disciplines.

Visitors can explore original paintings, photography, sculpture, pottery, jewelry, and other handcrafted creations while meeting some of the people responsible for producing them.

That personal connection is one of the festival's defining attractions. Instead of simply viewing finished works, attendees have opportunities to learn about the artistic process and discover what inspires individual creators.

Live demonstrations across six artistic disciplines add another dimension to the experience.

Music Adds to the Celebration

Art is only part of the weekend.

Live performances featuring blues, jazz, Americana, bluegrass, and gospel help create a distinctly Memphis atmosphere.

Festivalgoers can enjoy music while browsing artist booths, sampling food, and taking in the riverfront scenery.

The combination makes RiverArtsFest particularly appealing for couples, families, and groups of friends looking for an enjoyable fall outing.

A Special Anniversary Year

To celebrate two decades, the festival is introducing additional creative elements, including an anniversary poster by Memphis muralist Birdcap and a community self-portrait project called FACE FORWARD.

Free hands-on art activities will also give visitors opportunities to participate rather than simply observe.

A Weekend That Feels Like Memphis

Few settings offer a better backdrop for an arts celebration than the Mississippi River.

With the downtown skyline nearby and the river stretching toward the horizon, RiverArtsFest combines the natural character of Memphis with the creative energy that has helped define the city for generations.

Whether you're searching for a unique piece of art, enjoying live music, or simply spending an afternoon downtown, the anniversary celebration provides a timely reminder of what makes Memphis special.

Plan Your Visit

RiverArtsFest takes place October 17–18, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Admission is $15 for one day or $20 for both days. Children ages 6–17 are $5, and children 5 and under are admitted free.

With art, entertainment, food, and an unforgettable riverfront setting, this could be one of October's most enjoyable Memphis weekends.
