New South City Sculpture Honors Neighborhood History |
Reflections installation adds public art to L.E. Brown Park in Memphis |

A new work of public art in South City invites Memphis residents to reflect on the neighborhood’s past and the people who shaped it.
The sculpture, titled Reflections, was created by local artist Arnold Thompson and installed in L.E. Brown Park.
The six-acre park sits at 617 South Orleans Street and includes a playground and swimming pool.
An orb at the base of the sculpture reflects people looking at the work, adding a personal element to the experience.
The installation also features words by Memphis poet Njeri Fombi.
Public art projects can give familiar neighborhood spaces a fresh focal point while making local stories visible to new generations.
This sculpture brings together visual design and poetry in a setting residents can visit during an ordinary walk or trip to the park.
For families and neighbors, it offers a new reason to pause and notice an existing community gathering place.
The subject is local memory, not simply decoration.
Anyone planning a visit should check park access and current conditions.
Reflections provides another small but meaningful addition to Memphis’s public-art landscape. |
