Veterans in Millington and surrounding West Tennessee communities have a new option for medical care closer to home.

The Millington VA Clinic at 4963 West Union Road began seeing patients in June and celebrated its opening with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony on October 16.

The approximately 34,000-square-foot facility is part of the VA Memphis Healthcare System.

Its purpose is to make routine and specialized outpatient care more accessible for veterans who might otherwise travel farther for appointments.

Services include primary care, mental health care, women's health, audiology, clinical pharmacy, laboratory testing, and telehealth.

Veterans may be able to manage multiple healthcare needs at the same location rather than making separate trips into Memphis.

For patients living in northern Shelby County and nearby rural communities, reducing travel time can make appointments easier to schedule and attend.

The clinic is already operating. The October ribbon-cutting was a celebration of the facility, not the date medical services first became available.

The Department of Veterans Affairs lists regular facility hours as Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., although individual services may have different schedules.

Audiology services can help patients with hearing loss, tinnitus, and certain balance concerns.

Telehealth appointments can provide access to some clinicians without requiring patients to make every visit in person.

Veterans seeking an appointment should confirm eligibility, referrals, and the services available for their particular care needs.

The facility is also expected to expand some services as its operations develop, but future specialties should not be treated as currently available without confirmation.

Why local access matters goes beyond convenience: reliable transportation and long travel times can be barriers to keeping up with preventive and follow-up appointments.

Caregivers and family members may also benefit when a veteran's routine care is available nearer home.

The VA encourages patients to use official scheduling information when arranging visits.

For veterans across the greater Memphis area, the new clinic represents a meaningful investment in regional health services.
